[Omori lifts one hand to cup his mouth and lets out a loud (albeit flat):] Caw!

[He's summoning them--]

You’d let your own best friend get carried off by a bird? That’s low, man.

[He is not being the least bit serious.]

No. I would fight.

[Oh, wow! He's got a knife in his hand again! Someone really ought to check this kids pockets more. He waves it boldly around. Beware, hawks!]

[And of course he’s got that knife out!!! Classic Omori.]

Bird wouldn’t stand a chance.

[sadpoem]

I killed them in the treehouse.

You what?

[sadpoem]

They were monsters. Remember? [The overgrowth, he means, but Omori is (sometimes) a man of few words (when it suits the vibe).]

Jesus. You could’ve led with that.

[sadpoem]

[Omori quite abruptly tucks his knife back into his pocket and lifts Adam up, rathandling him until they're face to face.]

I should take you home.

[nolube]

[His beady little eyes look into Omori’s. It’s impossible to glean any emotion from them.]

What, so the birds don’t get me?

[sadpoem]

[Same.]

I want to draw you.

[nolube]

[With some surprise:]

Didn’t know you were an artist.

[sadpoem]

[Omori nods.]

Yup.

[Annnnnnnd we are standing up and heading for the treehouses. Adam is cradled in Omori's arms.]

Cool. Can’t wait for my portrait.

[And, well, he’s glad that this course of action means that Omori’s not gonna be anywhere near the forest. As much as the kid would like to handle himself, he’d rather he didn’t have to.]

[It's not a long trip home. Omori places Adam on his head as he ascends the ladder to the treehouse. A quick glance inside, and there's no Xie Lian. Omori creeps over to his bedroom door and cracks it open - no Xie Lian.

[Excellent. It's time for crime.

[Notice, Adam, in the corner of the living room, an absolutely massive pile of stuffed animals, pillows, and blankets, so large and expansive that it's almost bigger than the couch, by this point.

[He takes Adam off of his head.

[The rat is tossed gently into the pile. Feast.]

[Adam squeaks as he’s gently yeeted from Omori’s head and into the plush pile. He fights to the surface, desperate not to drown in blankets and toys.]

This yours, or Sunny’s?

I got them. Sunny uses them.

[The first few weeks that they were here, Omori would leave the treehouse to get food, supplies - things like that. Sunny wouldn't do it himself, and Omori was getting used to stretching new legs. He always used shards to get Sunny as many soft things as he could. He still does, when he's out.]
