[Omori waits the prescribed three days, then shows up at Adam's door. He doesn't have a knife in his hand, at least (it's in his pocket).

[He knocks, then waits.]

[Of the people Adam expects to come calling, Omori certainly isn’t on the list. Perhaps it’s optimistic, but when he hears the rapping against the door he thinks it might be Night Sky or Lehna - someone that might have noticed him missing - or Xie Lian come to tend to his rat friend.

Despite the state he’s in, there’s certainly no harm in answering the door.]

I’m coming - just - one sec -

[He peels himself out of bed (he’s stayed in there ever since he dragged his sorry self back) and stumbles to the door. He’s out of moonglow. He’s painfully sober.]

Hey -

[He opens the door, and all blood drains from his face. His optimism lies dead in a ditch. For a good moment, he says nothing - what the fuck does anyone say in this situation? ‘Hi, remember when you killed me?’

He settles for something.]

What - what are you doing here?

[Adam is afraid of him.

[That makes sense. It isn't a bad thing.

[Omori resents it, though. He'd really tried to do the right thing.]

[He leans on the doorframe, recovering somewhat he still quite shaky.]

A lot’s happened since we last saw each other.

[This place is a goddamn disaster and the creatures to be fought range from weak to otherworldly powerful. The lowlifes he's stumbling across more prevalent - another creature knocked out under his heel, incapacitated, but alive.

The enthralled can be tenacious. It's annoying. He would love nothing more than to end the lives of those at his feet, but he can't risk the attack on his image. The moments he's under the Green Knight's control are difficult enough to compensate for. He doesn't need the additional difficulties.]

[Jesus Christ this guy was insane. You’d have to be, to go headfirst into fighting against these creatures like this. That’s what Adam thinks as he cowers against the base of a tree, having been seconds away from ending up part of the food chain.

It’s insane, yes. But he’s grateful for it.

The boy calls out, and Adam finds it hard to peel himself away from his shelter. But he’s all out of people who can protect him now.]

Green Knight Dream Event after Adam runs from Night Sky

[Arrakis was badly shaken when he was freed from the Green Knight's call. Deep down he was terrified of his magic and the Green Knight had shown everyone the monster he was always running from. He couldn't think about that right now though, not when there was something far more important. Night Sky.

His glowing eyes burned brighter as his rage resonated with his magic. He refused to let the Green Knight use her to harm the people she cares about. He shaped his magic into a serpentine dragon made of wind and he used the wind's momentum to leap into the air as he started his search. Where was she?

When he saw someone who looked like they were running away from something he landed with a rush of wind.]

What are you running from?

[His tone was sharp with urgency. Honestly it was a long shot but he had to find Night Sky before it was too late.]

[Adam had been running for a while, though with the constant landscape of green he didn’t feel like he’d actually gotten anywhere. Already in a panic state, suddenly he’s being accosted by some guy - does he recognise him? He’s seen almost everyone around, at some point - and his tone is enough to make him leap back, startled.]

Shit, man -

[But this guy seems powerful, if not kind of terrifying.]

You gotta help me. Something’s up with Night Sky - you know Night Sky?

[Arrakis was friendly to everyone here in Somnius so Adam had probably seen him around even if they hadn't been properly introduced. However there was no sign of that friendliness in the mage before Adam right now. He magically sensed his surroundings rather than see them when he fully embraced his magic like this and he didn't recognize Adam's voice.

What he said was more important and his glowing eyes narrowed as they burned brighter.]

[A curious eye spies a familiar rodent by lake omen. Don't ask why Omori's out and about - things tend not to go well when he is! But Adam won't judge him. They have a mutually beneficial ratlationship.

[Omori's approaches the lake's edge, taking a seat and scooping Adam up without warning or prejudice. Slender fingers stroke his little rat head.]

Cheesed to meet you.

[Adam lets out a startled squeak as he’s suddenly picked up; his peripheral prey vision is only useful if he’s paying attention.]

Jesus- you wanna give a warning before you do that?

We talked, recently. I get why Sunny needs him - and that it’s been hard for Omori, too. I’ve been holding his existence against him, and it’s stupid. But I’m not going anywhere, and neither is he, [in a sense,] so...

[ Welcome to Maruki's favorite place in Somnius, Adam!

Seriously, the day Akechi told him that there was a bathhouse strikingly similar to those they might find in Tokyo was one of his best days here. Easily in the top ten. They go fairly often, at least a few times a week. It's so routine, yet the place has never lost its charm to Maruki. Clean, well-kept, sparsely populated at best.

Tonight is no exception – it's only them, the large pool of piping hot water, the cool tile underfoot and steam in the air.

It's bliss. Hopefully Adam enjoys it anywhere near as much as he does.

Maruki dutifully brought two oranges, just as Adam requested, and sets them on the edge of one of the pool walls before stepping down and sinking into the water gratefully. He's still wearing his glasses, though they fog up almost immediately and when he turns his attention to where Adam was standing in the room, he can't see him at all. Perhaps a blessing in case he's more modest, like Vash was when they brought him along – but isn't modesty antithetical to Americans...?

Ah, well, matters not. Maruki lowers further into the water until it's up to his shoulders and sighs deeply. ]

If it's too hot for you, we don't have to stay long. Don't push yourself and get dizzy, I'm not carrying a wet rat home.

[This is…nothing like Adam’s used to. Completely out of his cultural experience, actually - the closest comparison is a public pool, but that afforded a little more modesty and had a lot more screaming children involved.

It’s not bad. That’s his first impression. Different, but not bad. Kind of insane that it’s just him and Maruki; it’s a startlingly intimate setup for the kind of person he believes Maruki to be, but that’s also far from a negative.

He brought the beers - of course he was gonna bring the beers. He doesn’t stop to think whether it’s unwise to drink. This all started because of some sake, anyway, right? It’s fine. They’ll be fine. They sit on the edge next to the oranges, placed down with a light clink.

Stepping out into the pool, sliding off his towel, he’s pretty grateful that Maruki probably can’t see shit through his glasses. It’s not that he’s shy, but…it’s awkward, right? It’s awkward.]

Don’t underestimate me, man. [FUCK. It’s hot. It’s really hot. What the fuck. He grits his teeth, trying not to immediately jump back out.] I could stay here all night.

[ It's not awkward at all! Not to Maruki. For as easily flustered as he is by so many things, bathing together is not one of them. It's so commonplace, such an easy bonding activity. He's grateful to be able to share it with friends here.

Including Adam, who immediately looks... well, like a guy who's not used to boiling himself for fun every night.

Maruki stifles a laugh behind a hand and then pushes his glasses up into his hair. Adam is blurry without them, but at least he's visible. ]

It's not a competition, seriously! Please let me know if you start to feel faint. I'll have to keep an eye on you... How troublesome.

[ It's a tease that's entirely good-natured, even fond.

Maruki moves through the water to sit along the back ledge, head and shoulders leaned back against the stone-and-tile wall. ]

We'll wait until you've acclimated before we even attempt oranges or beer. I can't decide if those will help you or not...

Secret Santa

[ After getting some inside information, Vash has managed to procure a gift for his santee. He's about as subtle as a rock when he delivers it, but it's there, waiting, be it on the doorstep, window sill or someplace else.

In the wrapped package is a wooden box, and within that is something that looks kind of? Similar to a camera, but fashioned with a compartment for a crystal. ]


Adam,
I hope you like this. We may not know each other, but I was lucky to have someone who did know you. It's hard to get things like cameras here, but after talking to a couple of dragonkin friends, they hooked me up with something pretty similar.

It uses magic. You can charge the crystal with moonlight, and it can impress images on special paper. I'm prety sure any general shop will have the paper in stock, it wasn't hard to find. I've got you some to start with.

It's probably not exactly the same as a real camera, but I thought it might be fun.
